History of the RCRM

Macedonian Red Cross is established on March 17th 1945 and operates and function as an independent National Society since May 21, 1992. On November 1st 1995, is officialy recognized as a National Society by the International Committee od Red Cross (ICRC), and on November 25th 1995 becames 169th  member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societes (IFRC).

The most important conditions about recognizing the National Society of Macedonian Red Cross are:

  1. Acceptance of the Geneva Conventions from  August 12th , 1949 and the Additional Protocols from 1977. The Government of Republic of Macedonia ratifies the above mentioned documents on August 25th 1993.
  2. The Assembly of Republic of Macedonia adopt the Law for Macedonian Red Cross on July 26th 1994.

Macedonian Red Cross is a unique organization on the territory of Republic of Macedonia, which is consistent of Red Cross Local Branches and City Red Cross of Skopje. Macedonian Red Cross does not represent citizens association, although is voluntary, large, nongovernmental, nonpartisan and independent humanitarian organization of the citizens of Republic of Macedonia. The position and tasks of the Red Cross, the application and protection of the emblem and the name of the Red Cross, and the way of funding the tasks are regulated with the Law of the Macedonian Red Cross passed by the Assembly of Republic of Macedonia in 1994 (Official Gazette No. 41/94).

The organization, the scope and the method of work of the bodies and the departments, through which the Red Cross carries out the tasks, the number and the way of the selection of body members and the services are determined by the Red Cross Statute which is in full compliance with the Statute of the International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societes (IFRC).

“To stop or reduce the human suffering where ever it is, protect life and health, provide respect and dignity for the people especially in armed conflicts, accidents and disasters, to work on illness prevention and improving the health and social condition of the people, to encourage voluntary enagegment and continuose prepardness for giving aid and universal sense for solidarity and humanity.”

MACEDONIAN RED CROSS IS HUMANITARIAN AND VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATION ACTING IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE INTERNATIONAL MOVEMENT OF RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT SOCIETES , WHICH  AIMS TO PROVIDE AID AND SUPPORT TO THE VULNERABLE PEOPLE AND PROMOTING THE INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW AND HUMANITARIAN VALUES.
